There’s something seriously fabulous about wearing an outfit that makes you glow. Sometimes, however, sequins can feel like a little bit too much, especially if every other fashion girl has chosen the in-your-face shimmer for her look. What’s a girl to do? New Year’s Eve has passed, but you can still stand out like the star you are, without going overboard. Here are our five favorite ways to shine this season, sans the sequins.
1. It’s all in the Beading
Choose a 20s-era-influenced top or dress to really make an impact at your next event. What could be better than channeling the rebellious flappers of the 20s? Tone down extensive beadwork by wearing dark colors, a red lip and a classic cat eye. Want to make your piece especially edgy? Grab some statement heels and opt for leather. Beaded accessories pack just as powerful a punch.
2. Go for the Gold (or Silver, or Bronze)
Instead of opting for all-over sequins, choose a metallic accent instead. All black with a metallic clutch or bag, tights with metallic shimmer or even stiletto nails in chrome are all appropriate ideas. If this season isn’t the perfect time to try out an in-your-face accessory, we don’t know what is!
3. Make a Statement
No sequins are necessary when you can choose a layered statement necklace instead. Whatever aesthetic you’re planning on nailing this season, there’s sure to be a layered necklace that will amp up the chic factor. Grab a necklace dripping in gold for the ultimate finish to your outfit. If silver’s more of your color, not to worry, you can look equally as ravishing in your choice.
4. Commit to It
Want to make the biggest statement possible? Grab a metallic jumpsuit and dance your heart out. Nothing feels as 70s (which remember, is in) as an all-over metallic jumpsuit with a plunging neckline. A metallic romper is just as fun, and just as sexy.
5. Glitter Slippers are the New Glass
Cinderella may have been famous for wearing (and losing) her glass slippers, but 2015 is all about the glitter. Grab a pump with captivating details like glitter, or spikes or studs, for the ultimate party appropriate shoe. Metallic shoes feel just as fresh, especially in a sneaker or loafer style. If there’s anything 2014 has taught us about style, it’s that it always looks the best when you dress for yourself.
